I tried using anonymouse.ws (both English and German versions) and all I get is someone trying to sell me mortgages.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong as I've never used a proxy before.

I have never used the site before, but from what I have seen it's straight forward enough. You goto the anonymouse website, where it presents you with a place to enter a website address that you want to surf to, then when you press the "Surf Anonymously" button, you are taken to the site with a popup from anonymouse (that you can close straight away). Every click that you make on a site though the anonymouse system will bring back the advert popup. Small price to pay for a web-based Proxy.
You know that it's working as when you are surfing via their proxy, your URL address bar in your browser should look something like this :
http://anonymouse.ws/cgi-bin/anon-www.c ... splace.com
